Donn Beach was so much more than just the godfather of tiki. He was an American maverick, constantly creating his own opportunities. He reinvented himself many times, and was well known for embellishing the details of his extraordinary life.

This documentary takes on the task of separating fact from exaggeration to finally tell his story. There are slivers of truth to his tales- a youth spent in Jamaica, running rum during prohibition, hunting down cigars and liquor for troops in his World War II rest camps, and bringing the first commercial luaus to Hawaii. 

But what this film truly uncovers is the optimistic entrepreneurial spirit that kept him moving forward, even in the face of failure, and how his legacy is still apparent today.
